FAQs

How can you tell if a therapist is a good fit?

Such an important question! When seeking a new therapist, it's good to interview at least three people and pay attention to how it feels to be interacting with them. Listen to your "gut." It's good to ask some pragmatic questions as well as some "big picture" questions to get a sense of how they work. For example, you may ask "How long have you been licensed?" and "About how long have you been working with clients who have [specific condition/concern]" as well as questions like, "Is there a theoretical orientation that guides your work?" and "How do you know when it's time to end therapy?" Make sure the answers make sense to you.

How long and how frequent are your sessions?

Sessions typically meet for 50 minutes weekly. However, both session length and frequency may be adjusted around specific needs and circumstances. Please note: since I only have a limited number of after-school session times, which are highly sought after, I prioritize weekly clients for these time slots.

What ages do you work with?

I work with children, teens, and adults. I do not work with children younger than 6 years old.

Are there any clients you don't work with?

Yes, when a client or immediate family/household member experiences significant emotional dysregulation due to a condition that has not yet been addressed but requires a team treatment approach, such as with substance abuse, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, or family violence, I will refer clients to other professionals. However, I welcome such clients into my practice when steps have been taken to begin to address these issues and I have permission to collaborate and coordinate treatment with their other treating professionals.

Do you take insurance?

No, I'm not on any insurance panels; all of my clients are out-of-network and self-pay. However, I can provide "superbills" on request, which you can use to submit a claim with your insurance provider. Please check with your provider to determine if you have coverage for out-of-network services.

What is your fee?

Please schedule a free initial consultation to learn about my current fees.

Do you have a sliding scale?

While I offer a sliding scale to a limited number of clients, these reduced-fee slots are often full. If you feel you need a fee adjustment, please raise this question with me during our initial consultation.
